Background
Sara’s Cup is an annual tournament established in 2021 by Sara’s friends, colleagues, and staff with a vision of recognizing and appreciating her tireless efforts towards improving the learning outcomes of children furthest behind in the country. The cup has three main objectives:
- Networking Sara’s community and key stakeholders in education for sustained collaboration.
- Fundraising for Tenda Wema and
- Recognition of Sara’s efforts in education
The networks include and are not limited to policymakers, research institutions, academia, government, and other partners. In the last two years, members of the cup have successfully organized two tournaments: The 1st edition was held in 2021, the 2nd edition was held in 2022, and the 3rd was held in 2023 at Nairobi Primary School. These tournaments attracted high-level participation from various stakeholders.
The 4th edition of the Sara Cup tournament is scheduled to take place on September 28th, 2024, at Nairobi Primary School. This event aims to bring together participants, recognize them, and generate contributions to further learning outcomes for children furthest behind. To ensure the success of the tournament, several initiatives have been put in place:
- Three committees, namely Events Management, Sports, and Fundraising, have been formed to oversee various aspects of the event, ensuring smooth coordination and execution.
- With a fundraising target of KES 3,000,000, the tournament seeks to generate financial support that will contribute to the sustainability of Tenda Wema initiative.
- Targeted messages will be sent to suppliers, banks, friends of Zizi, PAL, and partners, inviting them to actively participate and support the event, fostering a collaborative and inclusive atmosphere.
- To raise awareness and attract participants, a visually appealing poster will be designed and ready for circulation by July 19th, 2024, effectively promoting the tournament and its objectives.
