Makena holds a Bachelor of Education (English and Literature) from Moi University and is a Certified Public Secretary (CPS) of Kenya. Previously, she headed the Disability Enterprise Support Centre (DESC) at the Kenya Institute of Special Education (KISE).

Makena strives to be kind and do the greater good as she strongly believes that the universe has a way of returning to her the kindness she puts into the world. Literature and fiction are her forte and she delights in reading and writing.
