Vollan Ochieng
Vollan Ochieng is a Program Manager - Innovations at Zizi Afrique Foundation (ZAF), where he supports program design and strategic leadership at the Directorate of Innovation. The initiatives involve development of contextualized program design approaches for adoption by the Foundation. Previously, he was a Research Consultant (Sub-Saharan Africa) with the Education Development Trust (EDT). At EDT, he supported the design and implementation of educations projects (i.e., small-, medium- to large scale projects) to inform education policies and practice. Before joining EDT, he served as a Research Officer at the African Population and Health Research Center (APHRC) for over 4 years. Vollan has extensive experience in supporting the design and implementation of education related studies in Africa. He has an extensive research and program management experience, which entail research work in some 13 countries sub-Saharan African countries. He holds an MA in Project Planning and Management (MAPPM), and a BA in Political Science and Environmental Studies from the University of Nairobi (Double Major).
Vollan is currently pursuing his PhD in Monitoring and Evaluation at the same institution. His research interests are in education and education technologies (EdTechs), early/foundational learning, climate change, migration, population, health, environment, and the intersection of these disciplines. He has authored and co-authored over 21 peer-reviewed research publications that include 15 are journal articles, and 6 book chapters covering the highlighted fields. He has also produced other research products that include briefing papers, projects’ technical reports, blogs, factsheets, and Op-Eds. He is very keen on education research that seek to address the issues of inclusivity, equity, quality, and equality in learning spaces.
