Symon Munene

Senior Program Officer, Literacy

Symon Munene Muchiri is an accomplished education specialist with extensive experience in foundational literacy. With over a decade of experience, Symon has contributed significantly to improving learning outcomes for early grade learners through evidence-based approaches, teacher training, and the development of inclusive teaching and learning materials.

In the recent past, Symon has worked with different organizations, including RTI International under the Tusome program and the Education Development Center (EDC) through the Kenya Primary Literacy Program (KPLP). In these roles, he supported the development and adaptation of teaching and learning materials for early grade learners, including children with visual impairments, in collaboration with the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD), the Ministry of Education (MoE), and the Teachers Service Commission (TSC). He also played a key role in monitoring the implementation of the literacy programs in different Counties in Kenya.

Symon also worked as an EGRA Specialist-Consultant under the USAID-funded Catalyze EduFinance Kenya Activity, where he was instrumental in adapting Early Grade Reading Assessment tools and training data collectors. He also worked with APHRC as a Literacy Expert–Consultant under the Developing Readers Program.

He is deeply committed to ensuring that no learner is left behind, and continues to advocate for inclusive, evidence-based literacy programs that improve outcomes for all children.
